The Lotus: A lotus is born from the muddy waters and grows from the murky waters to be a beautiful flower above the surface. The blossom of the flower never touches the surface of the water. This symbolizes the aspiration of all people in their pursuit of love, knowledge, compassion and learning. Lotus shows life ever renewed and revitalized when it peaks out of the muddy waters every morning. Lotus flower has often been described as the most exquisite gifts by the Mother Nature for the mankind. The lingering fragrance of the lotus flowers holds the perfect potential of bringing a beautiful smile on everyone. The importance of the lotus flowers is so great for the mankind that many traditional and spiritual meanings have also been attributed to them. The Lotus flower meanings hold in themselves the secret of happiness, knowledge, love and cheerfulness. The Lotus flower symbolizes the clarity of heart as well as the purity of the mind. In other words the Lotus flower represents strength, good luck, long life as well as honor and respect. Some scholars have even talked of the lotus flower being a universal representation of the spiritual presence in human lives. Hindu Mythology Lotus as a flower symbolizes the journey and advancement of the soul through the realization of the material world to be one with the supreme soul. As per Hindu mythology, lotus symbol is called "Padma" - symbol of purity/transcendence. Growing out of the mud, it is beautiful, and though resting on water, it does not touch it. The utterance of the first, 'Aum' brought forth the first "golden lotus". The lotus is also the seat of Brahma (the creator), thus making it a strong creation archetype. The stalk of lotus originating in Vishnu's (the preserver) navel also presents it as the umbilical cord in the creation of universe. Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity and Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge are also seated on lotus. Lotus feet show an attitude of submission and service. The fact that lotus leaves never get wet by the water, even though staying in water all the time, is a lesson for all mankind. Just like the lotus leaf, one must not get affected by the world, although staying in it all the time. Lotus thus becomes a symbol of perfect equanimity, as pronounced by Shri Krishna in Bhagavad Gita. Buddhist Mythology Buddhism adopted the concept of "Om Mani Padme Hum" - a hymn that celebrates the 'jewel in lotus' - the essence and spirit being invested in the core of all mankind, which can glow into radiant brightness if he can save himself from the debris of life. CIRCLES (Inner & Outer) The circle represents an ancient and universal symbol of unity, mobility, wholeness, infinity and the cyclic nature of universe. For various religions in the world, it represents the feminine spirit or force, the cosmos or a spiritualized Mother Earth, and a sacred space. Men and women coming together with a single goal are like various arms of a polygon joining together to form an enclosed structure. But when an infinite number of people come together and join hands, our polygon gets to look more and more like a circle. Thus, the circle is considered a symbol of unity, because all the regular polygons are embraced by the circle, or in other words an infinite number of people have come together and joined hands for a single work. It is also the symbol of infinity, without beginning or end. The circle became synonymous with the spiritual Wheel of Life. It represents the conscious and subconscious; heaven and earth; the psyche and the universe. Finally, the circle represents the cycle of life and death, of one's personal karma in which every human being is continuously bound. Symbol of people to construct a wheel between outer & inner circle The people between the two circles symbolize the men and women coming together for the construction of a new India. Unity in diversity is the highest possible attainment of a civilization, a testimony to the noblest possibilities of the human race. We live in a nation filled with a wondrous diversity of experiences, opinions, physical appearance, cultures, religion, etc. One of the challenges of this age is not only to find a way to live in harmony with people, who differ from us, but to celebrate the diversity and learn from it. We can only learn a limited amount from those who are like us but there is a vast amount of new knowledge to be gained from those who have a different perspective to our own. It has been said: "When there is unity among the people there will be peace in our world" Lord Buddha said: "He who experiences the unity of life sees his own Self in all beings, and all beings in his own Self, and looks on everything with an impartial eye" Mahatma Gandhi said: "I offer you peace. I offer you love. I offer you friendship. I see your beauty. I hear your need. I feel your feelings. My wisdom flows from the Highest Source. I salute that Source in you. Let us work together for unity and love." India, the land with Unity in Diversity is a land of different religions and communities. There is great diversity in our manners, habits, tastes and customs. We speak different languages and yet we are all Indians. "Unity in Diversity" has been the distinctive feature of our culture. India being the largest democracy in the world with a civilization more than five thousand years old boasts of multiple cultural origins. The message of logo: Let us join hands to make a strong chain and work together to build a powerful nation - as a land of people empowered by unity, morality, values, knowledge, learning & understanding. Let us come together to discover the lotus of knowledge, which stays in the heart of Mother India. For ages, this great mother of ours has been ill-treated by those who came from outside and didn't understand her divinity and purity. Let us raise her once again to her eternal throne as the spiritual guide and master of the world. Let us unite all Indians staying geographically within India, as well as those staying even outside the borders of the land and bring them together to worship the Mother. Let us make our nation proud with our work. This is the divine dream of Rashtra Chetana.
